Bottom Feeders are the way to go

These saucers are just the best to use in several ways . They have the right diameter to accommodate those black air prune plastic planters without being too large , and with just enough space left to give good access for a watering can nozzle to deliver your nutrients with ease. That diameter allows you to bottom feed your plants without splashing those nutrients everywhere, and bottom feeding is the right way to feed as we all should know anyway but rarely do . Bottom feeding is the best way to go because it encourages the plants Roots to seek out nutrition from below which encourages a stronger Root mass to develop AND it prevents the top roots from becoming water logged and possibly encouraging dampening off with new transplants. ( Obviously you do need to top feed initially for the first 3 weeks to allow those young plants to develop a strong Rooting growth pattern ) . The next really good thing about bottom feeding is that it DENIES a moist area for those gnats and mites to breed and multiply in because they won't breed if the top of your growing medium IS DRY. These saucers will create that very desirable situation in the top inch or two (unless of course you like to grow mites and gnats as pets and then spend your weekends trying to eradicate them) . The next best point with these saucers is the height of them , they allow enough depth of liquid to be poured in initially to allow the plant to soak up enough nutrients to feed the plant for up to 4/5 days (just like mother nature does all by herself) , how good is that for those times you are away for a few days. Happy problem free growing everyone, assuming of course you aren't trying to kill them with way too many nutrients or too much water in the first instance .
